Bruna Bönor (Brown Beans)

1 ½ cups brown beans
1 ½ quarts water
2 teaspoons salt
white vinegar

Wash beans and soak overnight.  Cook slowly in same water until tender (1 ½ – 2 hours).  Season to taste with salt, molasses and vinegar.

 Here’s a twist on Bruna Boner. My mother always cooked a stick of cinnamon with the beans and fresh water (after draining the soaking water) and then added brown sugar and a little vinegar after they had cooked down.  Jean Pierson
